Stainless Cash Counter

A stainless cash counter gives your takeaway a clean front point for payments, packaging and handover. It is built for daily service in busy kitchens, shops and food counters across the East Rand.

What a stainless cash counter does in a busy takeaway

There is no single standard size because every serving point has a different queue flow, packing station and clearance requirement. We normally start with the width of the opening, the staff side working space and the height needed for the customer side. For smaller takeaway counters, a unit around 1200 mm to 1800 mm wide is common. Bigger service points may need 2400 mm or more, especially where one counter is doing packing, payment and order collection.

Typical options include brushed stainless or a cleaner polished finish, fixed or removable lower shelving and backsplashes to suit wall mounting. If you need extra strength, we can specify heavier gauge stainless on the top and working face. If the unit is going into a humid coastal delivery or a wash area, we can adjust the frame and joinery details to reduce corrosion points and water traps.

  • Standard widths from 1200 mm to 3000 mm, made to measure if needed
  • Working heights usually from 850 mm to 950 mm depending on staff use
  • Top finishes for packing, handover and payment use
  • Optional shelves, drawer space, lockable storage and undershelves
  • Cut-outs for card terminals, cable routes and service access

Where this counter works best

Most stainless cash counters need only correct positioning, levelling and a clean service route. If the unit includes under-counter equipment, sockets or lighting, we plan the openings and cable paths before fabrication. When site conditions are tight, site measuring is important because walls are often out by a few millimetres, and that affects how the counter sits against cladding or tiled surfaces.

Power needs depend on what sits inside or on top of the counter. A plain handover counter may need no power at all, while a unit with warming, display lighting or a point-of-sale area will need a nearby supply. Gas is not normally required for the counter itself, but it must be considered if the cash point sits beside gas ranges, hot cabinets or bain-maries. In those cases we allow for safe spacing and service access as part of the layout.

  • Level floor and clear access for delivery through doors or corridors
  • Nearby plug points if lights, warmers or billing equipment are included
  • Space for cleaning behind and around the counter
  • Clear route for staff movement during peak trade
  • Allowance for extractor canopies or adjacent hot equipment where needed

Care, cleaning and daily service checks

Before you place an order, measure the available wall length, customer side clearance and staff working depth. Think about what happens at peak time. Does one person take money while another packs, or is the same person doing both? Will there be a till, card machine, receipt printer or display tray on the surface? These details change the internal layout.

Also check how the counter will arrive on site. If access is tight through a mall passage, narrow doorway or loading bay, we may need to split the design into sections for easier movement and final fixing. If the counter is joining other stainless equipment, send the full line-up early so we can match heights and finishes.

  • Exact space available, including door widths and passage access
  • Whether the counter needs storage, lockable doors or open shelving
  • Any cut-outs for cash handling, cables or heat pass-through
  • Whether it sits beside hot equipment, cold cabinets or a serving window
  • Preferred finish and cleaning method used on site

What clients say

Questions we get asked

Can the cash counter be made to fit a narrow shop front?

Yes. We make the unit to the site width and can split it into sections if access through doors or passages is tight.

Does the counter need power or gas?

Not usually. Power is only needed if you add lights, warmers or billing equipment. Gas is normally for adjacent cooking equipment, not the counter itself.

How do I clean a stainless cash counter properly?

Use warm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth. Dry the surface after washing and avoid harsh scourers or strong acids.
